Character Backstory:
James was always quite the tinkerer back on Earth. His father had opened a factory to produce Omni-Tools and other support devices for the Alliance Military under a strict contract, but three weeks in the line was cut due to a technical error. What the Alliance doesn't know is that the technical error was a sabotaging effort by a nearby wholesaler for the same types of goods for the local populace and merc's. James, after being left penniless at the age of eighteen, eventually found himself off-world and travelling for two years getting by performing jobs here and there in factory environments. At one point, he was working with the Blue Suns as a technician, another point he'd be working on a temporary contract with Apex Omnitools for six months.
And on one day in particular, his life would change. He was on call for Apex Omni-tools at the time; another contract he'd managed to get through his father, whom he still kept in contact. It was on site at this small working location at the Citadel. Some hot-shot son of a corporate suit's Omni-Tool was on the fritz and required seeing to due to the importance of the data in it's system.
So James arrived to find two goons at the door. "Hey; technical to see Mister Yokano," he'd say, flashing his contractor ID. They'd let him in and would watch him as he'd work away at it, using his own Omni-Tool to conduct the data mine. It was quiet in the apartment, save for the sound of what was probably a domestic dispute a floor above.
Then the Omni-Tool notifies James of the successful data transfer. And James, mindless of the fact the data was private, taps on the notification and begins to scroll through the files. It's names of politicians with large X marks as their device; someone's been naughty.
The goons didn't seem to notice this, and as they approach James simply gives a thumbs up and closes the interface. "Got it. I'll see to it Mister Yokano gets this as soon as poss-" he'd say, being cut off at the sight of one of the goons pulling a knife from his thick overcoat. "You ain't sayin' nothin', buddy."
James would emit a cough, hand on his stomach as he drops his Tempest to the ground beside himself, slumping down in the corner alleyway two blocks from the apartment. He'd apply medi-gel to the open wound, his face going from pain to pain with a hint of ease. With the wound closed and his thermal clip empty, he'd stagger back out into the street before heading to the attempt to alert the local authorities.
And that's when he bumped into the representative for the Yoshia Syndicate. They offered more than the officials could; safety and money for the names to use as leverage in political efforts. A week passed, and then he found himself aboard the Geisha.
