Practical - Being born on a mining planet has its advantages.  One of those advantages happens to be practicality.  Tei has a very down-to-earth personality and physical mindset--if it doesn’t exist in the real world, he doesn’t care about it.

Brilliant - While not strictly the most intelligent person on the ship, Tei certainly ranks in the top percentage of the booksmart genius scale.  This comes from years and years of him tinkering with robots, electronic systems and programs.

Private - Tei values his privacy.  As a result, it’s actually quite difficult to get him to talk about himself beyond the work he does or anything that is relevant to a debate.

Forthright - Tei has no patience for beating around the bush, as it were.  He will say what is on his mind at any given time, whether prompted or not, and with little regard for how it will affect his surroundings.

Pretentious - What more needs to be said?  Tei has a high opinion of himself, although whether or not he actually lives up to that is in the judging hands of the audience whom he is entertaining.

Abrasive - Never having been much of a people pleaser, Tei is coarse in his language and uncouth in his manners.  He’ll even try to assert he is right when he is not, as to him winning an argument is more important than anything else.


Born on the mining planet of Kenaz, Urstarth Tei was raised to be a very practical salarian.  From a young age he proved himself to be adept at programming and repairing the mining equipment used by the settlers of his colony.  Eventually he became adept enough to write his own programs and modify the machines to better suit the demands of the colonists.  

Being that Kenaz was in the Horsehead Nebula right next to the Nemean Abyss, it was prone to slave raiding parties.  Paranoia and prejudice were pervasive, and when Tei’s settlement was hit, very few made it out unscathed.  Consequently, the salarian was contracted to work on several security systems to which backdoor exploit installations were encouraged.  Through a year of this work he saved enough to relocate himself off-world, though not enough to make it farther than Omega.

He never intended to become a permanent resident of the space station but he saw the opportunity for profit with his particular set of highly demanded skills.  On one of many contracts he encountered a rather complex VI program, and by backwards-engineering its systems he learned many new skills and talents that made him a formidable hacker.  During a street attack by a particularly vicious vorcha, Tei had his throat torn out and his speech permanently impaired; while in recovery he developed the holo-pendant he so favors for communication.  

Presently, Tei makes his living as a professional blackmailer.  Just after being contacted for possible contract work on the cargo ship Geisha, Tei sent out a few feelers (read:snooping) to acquire some personal protection for himself.  Whether he's paying the poor sap or blackmailing him is unclear.
