Character Backstory
Origins:
Dalkey; an urban village of roughly 15,000 people located on the east coast of the Republic of Ireland, just minutes south of Dublin. Sadie was born to two Roman-Catholic parents who, set in their ways, had no plans of ever leaving Earth and practiced strict traditions. Though they had basic 21st century technology in their home, they lived off of the land, growing and harvesting their own food and selling or trading what they could at the market in Dalkey. Sadie, the eldest of six siblings, lead a sheltered life; she farmed, she cooked, she cleaned, she helped to raise the little ones.
Childhood:
In 2171 CE, when Pope Clement (assassinated by Cerberus) died from "heart failure", the new Pope Leo XIV (a Cerberus plant) pushed the ideals of putting humans first; her parents agreed strongly and showed feverish resistance to contact with "aliens". In 2173 CE, when Sadie reached the age of 9, a teacher at the local elementary school taught Sadie about other alien species. Fearful and mostly uneducated, her parents withdrew her and did their best to cast her dreams as merely dreams. Sadie was in strong opposition, but kept in line and kept her head down. Her mother home-schooled her and, in time, Sadie helped to homeschool the younger children as well.
Teenager:
At 16, Sadie met her first non-human. Anais the Asari; a mere 45 years old, born to an Asari mother and human father, the family was visiting Earth to bury Anais' father in his homeland and to pay their respects to what living family he had left in Dublin. Anais was beautiful and interesting, and she showed just as much interest in Sadie. The two spent countless stolen hours together; Sadie snuck out of the house at every opportunity to meet Anais in secret locations and asked countless questions, discovering more and more that her parents were wrong about other species. Anais was a troublemaker; she knew how to find the parties and the alcohol, and the pair could spend hours drinking and bullshitting. The romance came on unexpectedly, and though it was not unwelcome, it was bittersweet and short; the pair were only a pair for a week. When her relationship with Anais and the details of their escapades were uncovered by her parents, she was shunned and forbidden to leave her room. She was allowed her freedom again once her parents were sure the Asari matron had taken her unruly daughter off-world, and Sadie never saw Anais after that.
Alliance Soldier:
At the age of 18, Sadie snuck away from home for the last time in her life, hitching a ride to Dublin to enlist with the Alliance military. She wrote home often during training, begging for forgiveness and also for news of her siblings, but received no reply; the silence from her parents distracted her and caused her to doubt and question herself. In the end, she graduated near the bottom of her class with scornful remarks from her commanders. Upon completion of basic, she was deployed immediately to Eden Prime for what was described as "routine security". Eden Prime, the first foreign world, was beautiful and serene. Other soldiers joked that they had lucked out, being stationed on such a boring and safe planet. During her stay on Eden Prime, she received her first reply from her parents: "We miss you so. You are dead to us. We will pray for your soul." She did not reply.
Eden Prime:
Not long after her final note from her parents, a mission on Eden Prime went awry, and Sadie was forced into combat against Geth - up until that point, they had simply been a myth to her. Most of her detachment perished; she survived by hiding in a shipping yard, buried beneath overturned cargo. Before blacking out, she caught a glimpse of a large, squid-like ship. The Alliance presumed her dead, sending word to her family. A local resident uncovered her a day later; she stripped herself of her Alliance gear and weapons, trading them for his discretion - "Please, don't report that I'm still alive." Unable to return home and unwilling to return to the Alliance, she stowed away on ships or traded what little skills she had for passage; eager to meet and learn about as many alien species and planets as possible.
Now she finds herself aboard the Geisha; currently a stowaway, hitching a ride off of Oasis station which was far too dangerous for a girl such as herself.
