| team Name: Xenoxia Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:81079783 Profile Link: http://steamcommunity.com/id/AEXenoxia/ Rp Experience: God knows how long, I forget. Tell me a cool Mass Effect Fact: Mass Effect 3 has the number 3 in it. Character Name: Montague Kendall Age: 36 What can your character do for our ship?: Biotic Vanguard, General infantry, Muscle/Triggerman Character Equipment: N7 Vanguard Armour, L4 Vanguard Biotic Implants, Monomolecular Biotic Blade, N7 Crusader, M-5 Phalanx, Vanguard Shielding and Barrier. Abilities: Phase Disruptor, Biotic Charge, Biotic Slash, Shockwave, Nova, Barrier Moral Alignment: Chaotic Good Strengths: N7, Strong Biotic, Independent, Experienced, Strong willed and Acrobatic. Weaknesses: Bigheaded/Cocky, Little regard for self-safety, Expects quick results, rarely social, quirky and semi-disfigured. Character Backstory a.ka. how or why are you here (One paragraph minimum, be creative!): - Chapter One - Conception:
Chapter One - Conception
Montague’s parents were very adamant researchers and after the discovery of highly advanced Prothean technology on Mars; it didn’t take them long to get hooked on the new space-faring discovery. While dabbling with the trace amounts of Element Zero on Mars and other planets in the system, his parents assisted in the creation of Faster Than Light.
After some experiments that had unfortunately gone wrong within the first prototyping of the FTL system, Montague's father had unfortunately passed away; while his mother was subjected to several clouds of dust-form Element Zero and barely managed to survive. However, that wasn’t quite the last of Montagues conception as a Biotic.
- Chapter Two - Birth:
Chapter Two - Birth
Montague’s birth wasn’t the most pleasant, due to the accident on Mars when trying to create the FTL systems; Montagues mother had fallen ill with terminal cancer and had just barely given birth to Montague himself.
His mother, fearing that she would not be able to look after her child due to the terminal cancer, decided to have Montague adopted by his auntie and uncle. Montagues mother ended up passing away barely a few years after.
- Chapter Three - Schooling:
Chapter Three - Schooling
Montague’s upbringing was what some might call a harsh one, not knowing his real parent; however he lived very happily with his uncle and auntie; unaware of the truth. His auntie and uncle were rather forceful on his tutoring, as his auntie wanted to make sure she didn’t ‘fail’ her sister; trying to give Montague the best education that he could get.
Montague however wasn’t exactly an easy child to work with, slight disfiguration of his face and body due to the biotic nodes/mutations through his body meant that children would often pick on him and made his life a rather difficult one to live. Montague had to be pulled out of school and self-tutored by his auntie and uncle due to the constant berating from both children and tutors alike, though he always tried his best to pull through.
- Chapter Four - Self-tutoring and corrections:
Chapter Four - Self-tutoring and corrections
Montague spent a lot of his younger years in self-tutoring from his auntie and uncle, this created quite a few social issues due to having very little people around him; sometimes his auntie and uncle did due to the social problems created by his abnormalities. It wasn’t until Montague was around sixteen that his auntie and uncle even forefoot a bill to get Montague certain correction surgeries to improve his social life; something that had been difficult for him before.
- Chapter Five - High school and convincing:
Chapter Five - High school and convincing
When Montague was sixteen, shortly after the tutoring and abnormality corrections and while he wasn’t exactly the most handsome of men even after that; he managed to go through high-school. While Montague didn’t exactly get bullied as much as he did before, or have as many comments about his looks; he still had plenty of social stigmas brought on by his lack of social interactions. Montague spent a lot of his time watching films, playing games and just barely managing to hold a conversation with anyone who even attempted to.
After coming home one day after just turning seventeen, Montague was confronted by two men who had recently convinced their uncle and auntie that there was something wrong with Montague. Playing off the feelings that his auntie wanted to do right by her sister, knowing his mother had been exposed during their experiments; they took Montague off to BAaT (Biotic Acclimation and Temperance Training) which seemed to have been given the nickname “Brain Camp”.
- Chapter Six - “Brain Camp”:
Chapter Six - “Brain Camp”
Montague unfortunately became a new student of BAaT just before they enlisted the secret use of Turian Biotics, it was a rough time for all students there; the training often making most snap and some even dying. Montague was faced with many problems over the coming years, many trials and plenty of hardening challenges from the Turian Biotics that forced Montague to train and work as hard as he could.
Due to Montague having gone against hard odds before and learning not to break down and just cry, he forced himself as hard as he could to keep up with the training the Turian Biotics had forced them to do. Everyday got harder and harder, until his training was near its end and the Biotic Acclimation and Temperance Training had been shut down in the year 2169 due to the diplomatic issues between Humans and Turians.
Montague was now Twenty One and had just then transferred to an Alliance Biotic Training facility, where he picked up the idea of joining the Alliance Military and having signing a waiver to not disclose any information about the facility short after finishing his years within the Biotic Training facility and having been fitted with L2 Biotic Amplifiers.
- Chapter Seven - Alliance Military:
Chapter Seven - Alliance Military
At Twenty One, Montague was now training within the Alliance Military as a Vanguard, a close quarters assault biotic specialist who uses shotguns, pistols and biotics to their advantage. After six months, Montague had made the rank of private and continued to further their training and biotic power; something that held a heavy toll on Montague's health as he suffered from migraines weekly and luckily only the odd few non-common hallucinations.
After making it through just over four years of training, Montague was finally at the rank of Sergeant at the age of Twenty Five. After various missions and proof of leadership values, Montague spoke with his superiors about going through the marine corps enlisted commissioning education program.
- Chapter Eight - Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program:
Chapter Eight - Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program
Montague went to college for four years to train, learn and prove themselves that they had what it took to become an Officer. Spending the time as an active marine and going to college proved to be quite tough, most days they would end up getting to college to learn; only to be tired from their active duty as a marine and had been caught asleep once or twice within lessons.
After those four years of hard work, Montague had learnt so much from those four years of training. Montague was shortly a Staff Sergeant, but had however now became a commissioned officer within the alliance after his bare pass within the education program. Montague however still had his work cut out for them, having to move on to TBS in order to learn the basics of being a commanding officer and after a long period of time; Montague was finally a specialised Ground Officer within the Alliance Marines.
- Chapter Nine - N1-N7 Trials:
Chapter Nine - N1-N7 Trials
Around the age of Twenty Nine, Montague was now at the tipping point of all trials. No longer wanting to be just a typical alliance officer, Montague while now a semi-hardened Second Lieutenant; had plenty of work left for him.
First, it was the N1 trials; Montague went to Vila Militar in Rio de Janeiro to partake in the so called ‘grueling courses’ that he had heard of. Montague was so proud of himself, that he completely underestimated the N Trials that he was about to undertake. After making his way to Interplanetary Combatives Academy, Montague’s training was very much ‘grueling’ like he had been told. Constant twenty hour a day training of combat exercises, leading exercises and very little sleep or food; all of this left Montague at his wits end.
The migraines became such a hinderance and a problem, that to further his trials he willingly went through surgery to have his L2 implants replaced with L3 implants; a very dangerous procedure at the time. Something that took a while to recover from and ultimately delayed his N1 training, though when he came back he was particularly ready to start back his training where he left off.
It was during the time of his N-Trials that Montague had gained a relationship, fell in love and had gained a relationship with a human female. He cherished her wholeheartedly and even had a child with her, a little girl called Emellia. Emellia was fond of her father, spending time with him between his training between the N-Trials; Montague's own little beacon of light that helped guide him through each and every Trial.
He worked his way up each N-Trial, first he’d finished N1 and then he made his way to N2 as he learnt how to fight in Zero-G. After each grueling off-planet trial, he kept going and going after each one. N3 and N4, learning how to military free-fall and even how to use a jetpack. N5 and N6; Combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics between countries and races and finally the basic and advanced frontline trauma care for both human and alien biology of all kinds.
N6 however, was filled with actual combat experience tests; missions throughout the galaxy and in all sorts of combat zones. Montague was not only pitted with other N6, but even against them or on his own as he was forced to better his friends, colleagues, other races and even races he’d never seen before.
After making it through the entire of N6 training, apparently in such a manner that had coveted him with the classification of N7; through excessive admiration for the Alliance and the admiration gained by his superiors and overseers. At the age of Thirty Five, Montague had finally finished his training within the N-Trials and as a secondary reward for his actions and skill; was offered the brand new L4 Vanguard Biotic Implants that had recently been designed and put into use for skilled Biotic Vanguards.
- Chapter Ten - Being Framed & Dishonorable Discharge:
Chapter Ten - Being Framed & Dishonorable Discharge
Just a year after gaining the classification of N7, Montague had created a name for himself within the Alliance and had became part of a sick plot planned by a group of people he had ‘wronged’. While on a mission on Illium, Montague had fell asleep in his apartment; it was unfortunate that said group of people had decided to break into Montagues apartment and steal several traces of his DNA and articles of data that they could change/falsify; leaving incriminating evidence at a scene of several murders and other crimes in order to frame Montague.
A knock was placed at Montagues apartment, he was took into custody and held there for several days while being questioned. Montague gave excuse after excuse, knowing he had not committed these crimes; until he realised it wasn’t working and he was not going to be acquitted of these falsified crimes any time soon; as well as being discharged from the Alliance Marines and losing his classification as an N7.
He needed to get out, he needed to absolve himself of his own crimes, he needed to get his honor and classification back;; he needed more time so that he could find the real murderers and get the evidence to acquit him of the charges.
Montague escaped when he could, with all his training and all his abilities and the right time; he chose one very carefully and managed to escape the custody on Illium. Montague made his way to his apartment, scared and distraught for one of the first times in his life; knowing that he could no longer just go and see his child or his wife so easily. When he got to his apartment, he packed as much as he could that was still there in the crime scene investigation; he retrieved his armour and weapons that was locked away hidden within a compartment within the apartment.
It was now that all of Montagues training was helping him the most, he’d make his way off planet and soon find himself bargaining with all kinds of people and mercenaries to find a way to clean his slate. It was at this time that Montague found himself at the clutches of a recently sprung up mercenary group created by the syndicate, hoping to use the syndicate as a source of information to find those that had framed him. He set off to work with them in the hopes to quickly work his way up and get a meeting with their superiors, so that he could get the information he needs.
Afterall, smuggling a bit of red spice to get some information; is a lot better than being framed for the murder of several ‘High Valued’ people… Right?...

| What non-combat skills would the character bring to the crew?
Also, out of curiosity, did they let him keep the gear after the discharge, or did he acquire it via other means?

| "When he got to his apartment, he packed as much as he could that was still there in the crime scene investigation; he retrieved his armour and weapons that was locked away hidden within a compartment within the apartment."
He stashed his equipment away while he slept and because they were hidden, the investigation team did not find them; thus allowing him to retrieve them after he broke out and got them.
He's an N7, so he obviously has competent medical skills that was trained during the N-Trials that could also be used out of combat; but he's nowhere near the capabilities of an actual doctor or anything like that. I guess I could include other skills if that is required.

| Medic skills are ok, but combat and medic skills are two of the most popular pics for skill sets.
"Weaknesses: rarely social"
While most of his weaknesses are good ones, this one when combined with his skills makes me think the character is perhaps too focused on combat. This might not be too great on two levels. One, you might have a boring time playing him outside of combat if he doesn't talk to anyone much. Two, he may be too overpowered in combat, potentially causing OOC rage if he ever gets into a fight. But I may be missing details here, does he have any weaknesses in combat?
(Also, why N7 and not N1-N6?)

| I have, if you read the one spoiler it details throughout the whole N1-N7 experience. And I guess it probably would be an idea to change the rarely social thing, considering what you said. Is there any kind of skill set you could suggest I give him?
(Oh and to the fighting thing, I'd be playing him as a crew pacifist. Meaning he'd go for non-lethal takedowns or simply get outa there. Unless he's on an actual mission.)

| A skill unrelated to combat that you'd find enjoyable to roleplay.
And I meant why *you* picked an N7 rank for the character. Why does this character need to be the best of the best of the best? What does it add to the experience of playing him or interacting with him?
I may be taking a logic leap that's a bit too far here and I apologize in advance if I'm completely wrong, but it sounds like you got the idea for this character while playing the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer? There's certainly nothing wrong with that, that's how I got the first ideas for Druss way back when. It feels like the backstory had a ton of thought put into it, but the way the character would interact with the crew, what skills they have and how they're balanced out, and why, OOCly, they are what they are, doesn't seem to have had as much thought put into it.

| Oh no, no. I havn't actually played the Vanguard in ME3 Multiplayer, I usually stick to the infiltrator or the Krogan. If anything, Naomi Merigold on Singularity was created because of ME3's infiltrators and the multiplayer. This application was mostly to improve my application writing, as you might know from my previous applications they wern't exactly too great.
I picked N7 because, well I'll be honest; I wanted to make my character something that would require a well written app and simply because the idea of being an N7 facinates me. Seeing others make good apps and having an N7 character inspired me to make this. I thought it would be something interesting to not only write for, but also to roleplay out; a conflicted N7 of sorts.
Honestly, I didn't intend them to be purely combat based; I guess it just came about that way when I thought of the character as a concept and wrote about them, it was something I enjoyed doing. I'd be happy to have my character have gone down other specialities for his skill set, such as an; information specialist, roboticist, scientist, weapons specialist or a intelligence specialist are a few that may suit the character; and depending on need I could set my character up for those.
Edit - I also don't expect them to be a character that's around for too long, I'd love to work with the admin team to create events of sorts with this character that would not only further the server but also this character; events that would allow the character to move on from the smuggler group and get back to his family and get his life back. Or even have it so that he's conflicted, maybe he makes good friends with the characters on the server and he feels he doesn't want to move on from it; conflicts of sorts.

| N7 is a pretty big pair of boots to fill. If Im correct we already have one 'former' N7 aboard. Dont get me wrong this is a VERY well put together application. Im going to pow wow with my staff about this one, see what we can do. | |

| Ah I see, well I can understand that. And thanks, I spent about two days making this and cross-referencing so much information to make sure it was right and feasible. | |

| Going to accept this, just dont maximoo edge the n7 part. I know their super duper delta farce, but dont have it as the only aspect of your character. | |
